Co-op donates over $1 million to the Canadian Red Cross

Co-op donated over $1 million to the Canadian Red Cross between 2012 and 2017.

The Co-operative Retailing System has been a long-time partner of the Canadian Red Cross because of their commitment to support Western Canadian communities in times of need.

Our partnership with the Canadian Red Cross truly demonstrates what it means to be part of a community. In many cases, when a natural disaster struck in Western Canada, local Co-ops initiated till donation campaigns, allowed employees time off to aid their community and kept their doors open to provide relief and support to anyone in need. These generous acts were made in addition to FCL’s $1 million donation, on behalf of the CRS, to the Canadian Red Cross between 2012 and 2017.

Some of the major events that our donation positively impacted include the following Western Canadian Communities:

2013 | Co-op supported the Canadian Red Cross to provide 945,000 relief supplies to residents affected by floods in southern Alberta

2014 | Co-op supported the Canadian Red Cross to provide thousands of clean-up and hygiene kits to families affected by floods in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

2015 | Co-op supported the Canadian Red Cross to provide food, clothing and shelter for over 10,000 people forced from their homes by forest fires in Saskatchewan.

2016 | Co-op supported the Canadian Red Cross to provide aid to 65,000 families affected by wildfires in the Fort McMurray area.

2017 | Co-op supported the Canadian Red Cross to provide emergency relief to over 20,000 households affected by wildfires in British Columbia.

In 2018, Co-op will renew its partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, as part of our ongoing commitment to support the communities where we live, work and play.
