Helper Highlight: Baking for the Block
Sometimes helping is all about making people smile. In the midst of a global crisis, there is a lot to worry about. But, scattered through every community there are individuals who are persistently positive, proactive and dedicated to making their neighbours feel better.
Corrine has been described by her community as a “special neighbour” who is always the first to welcome newcomers with homemade cookies. When the pandemic first started and social distancing regulations were put into place, Corrine sent all of her neighbours a typed letter asking if she could bake them homemade buns. Of course, everyone agreed, and to comply with the government regulations, Corrine set the buns on her doorstep every Wednesday for her neighbours to pick up. Word of “Bun Day” spread quickly, and now there is a line of neighbours (standing six feet apart, of course) at her door every Wednesday to collect their baked goods. Corrine labels each package with the family’s name and wraps them all individually. She has also started to include homemade jams and muffins.
Through kindness and care, Corrine has brought light and excitement to her community. Her neighbours have found a way to come together despite the social distancing regulations. Thank you for brightening spirits, Corrine.
We asked Co-op members, customers and team members to nominate people who are making a difference in their communities during the pandemic. We’re sharing a selection of stories about these helpers and what they are doing for their friends, families and neighbours during this time.
